I realize it has been awhile, but I figured since I awoke to sirens from the Fire Department that is a few blocks away. I had some sort of dream that a flood had occurred and I had lost contact with my parents. It wasn't an end of the world flood, but big enough that people lost contact and couldn't find there loved ones. Having woke up to this, I figured I might as well make my being up worth it.

The last couple weeks have been going fairly well. I was a bit worried as I hadn't heard back from that job possibility yet. In which case last Tuesday I called and asked. They were very nice and said that the Business Manager had the resumes and that the head of HR was on vacation. They said after Labor Day the HR manager would be back and would contact people for interviews, so I am crossing my fingers.

I am taking 12 days off in a row purely using my accrued overtime. I am off until the 12th and it feels sort of weird to not be working. I still have to take another week+ off after to get my vacation down to only 6 weeks (we lose anything over 6 weeks of vacation on our yearly anniversary, but that isn't until June). On top of this I am earning almost 15 hours a month of vacation due to our enforced furloughs (I hate the paycut). It means unless I get hired by the Health District I am forced to take a week of vacation every three months (plus an extra day or two at the end) so I don't exceed my max. I realize this sounds "so horrible" but I have anxiety about having days off. I always worried I am in trouble. Its what happens when you worked so much of your life in a "McJob" that when you have a real job it freaks you out. Plus, I think I am just overanxious due to overworking (120 hours of OT this summer alone).

Ok, I will quit bitching about the time off :)

Although if I did get the Health District job, they would cash out up to 6 weeks of vacation, means we could pay at least half of what we owe on the car outright. That would be nice.

Oh, we went to the Evergreen Fair on the 1st. We had a great time, except I learned my legs are too long for the rollercoaster and that my calves are still killing me a day and a half later. We ate too much Fair food and next time I don't need to eat that crap (we don't normally eat it, it was my first experience eating fair food). Although we did have alligator on a stick. Alligator on a stick is pretty damn tasty.

Here are a couple of photos from it:

Hanging out

This is [personal profile] ethicalcannibal and [livejournal.com profile] finnegwyn  on the ferris wheel, and below is myself hanging out.

Ayyyy!!!

I am not at my most photogenic, but this is me squished down as I realized my fear of heights. Also I did not realize that ferris wheel gondolas rocked so much. Although I had a great time.

My mind is rambling so I will shut this down.

Ah-HA! So I am not the only weirdo that gets freaked out from having time off! I do the same thing. My boss thinks it's goofy because I get so apologetic when I need to ask for time off or take a sick day. My colleagues used to ask why I fret about it, now they just roll their eyes. I hadn't thought about why I do that before, but may it's from too many years at hourly wage jobs... My boss and colleagues have always just been engineers.

Also, totally understand about the ferris wheel. I went on one for the first time with Scott about three years ago. Ours was a bench instead of a gondola, and it rocked. Scott thought it was fun to swing his legs and make it rock more - until I plastered myself against him and squealed. Then he stopped rocking it, and started mocking me. "Who gets scared on a FERRIS WHEEL?" I do. 'Nuff said.

We are like two peas in a pod :)

I still get anxious I am going to get fired. I saw a coworker yesterday and she was joking around. She said she and the three supervisors were all chatting. They didn't understand why I got anxious about taking time off and that I might get fired. They always think its funny that they actually have to tell me to go home. Now, the good part of that I could get any time I wanted off without question, just because I don't ask.

I also feel better about the ferris wheel. Wolsey was fairly kind about it, but I got a bit of ribbing for it. I figured I was the only person (other than [livejournal.com profile] finnegwyn who had a irrational fear of it. Now I do feel better, thanks. :)

Make that three. Though technically for me it's fear of falling not specifically heights. I detest unstable places. This includes a lot of amusement park rides.

I hate taking time off, and I share your trepidation about getting canned. I got worried when I was out sick... after people TOLD me to go home.

As of last pay check I have 337hrs of vacation and 934hrs of sick on the books. This is after taking 270hrs off this winter for military training. So, I don't take time off either. Not through fear, but more because I'm accustomed to work. It's just what I've done since I was 12. Anything else seems 'odd'. I always have to take a lot of time off in the winter to keep my vacation hrs below the 320hr max (sick has no limit).

My son asked to go to 6-Flags in Tx yesterday. I had to point out that while I am a big fan of scary rides, he doesn't like the elevator!

I wish they would let us collect more vacation, it would be awesome to have the 320 hour mark. Sick time I don't keep so high because wife has to go to a lot of doctor appointments with her sickness, so that stays down around the 40 hour mark or so. Although I am happy to have it.

I would love to go to 6-Flags in Texas. When I was a little kid we lived in Dallas and evidently we went to 6-flags, I have seen the pictures but have no memory of it myself.

I wonder if I would have been more comfortable in a 6-Flag or Disneyland ride. The rides we were on didn't appear to be as secure or as well maintained as what I would imagine from a professional themepark (but maybe I am wrong since I have no memory of a real themepark).

LOL, well, after a few deaths (mostly park workers), they got a bit more careful about the rides. Got VERY strict about the height thing.

Six-Flags was actually mine and my sister's "baby sitter" many summers. My parents would get us season passes, drop us off in the morning, and pick us up that night. We became very used to the park, the staff, and after a while just stayed in the arcades and skipped the rides.
