Here is a very interesting article: www.mcclatchydc.com/244/story/68456.html Basically it was a study that showed the poorest 1/5th give proportionally more to charity then the rest (probably even more then they should), whereas the richest 1/5th give the least percentage of their income.

Growing up poor I have always held the belief that the poor were the most generous (percentage of their income). It is a built in survival trait. I was taught give as much as you can, then a little more to help those that need it. This was because we had been in the position of needing a hand out before, and you never know, we probably would be again.
The most interesting quote was when they asked a poor gentleman why he thought they gave more. He said because the poor aren't scared about having enough money, they "know how to get the lights turned back on when needed". I think he may have something to it.

Date: 2009-05-26 08:54 pm (UTC)Charatible donations alone are one of my biggest tax write-offs. LOL, not that I wouldn't do it any way, but it is entertaining to have my accountant talk to me about 'the limit' I can claim -v- being worried that I didn't give enough to matter...
