So the lawsuits begin
Apr. 30th, 2010 06:08 amI haven't posted this directly here, mostly I have been answering other people's post. For the record I think the new Arizona Immigrant Law is not only unconstitutional but follows the same line of thinking that the USSR had during the cold war. I remember growing up thinking how horrible it would be to live in a society that the police can check your ID whenever they wanted for absolutely no reason.
I don't believe any person should have to show ID unless they have committed a crime. I don't believe you need to flash your ID just to prove your not an illegal immigrant. Also, I do not believe states have the right to defend national borders, that is a federal government job and that's why I pay taxes to the feds.
Some ask why I care? Well its true I don't live in Arizona, however I do live in a border state and it sets an extremely bad precedent (there is already rumor Florida may try something as well). Not that I see a lot of problems with illegal immigration from Canada, however it does happen some here. Already we have the Border Patrol can ask for ID when someone gets on the Ferry (maybe that was overturned, I haven't heard anything about that for a year or so) when they are nowhere near the border. That is wrong, let alone the whole idea that local police can ask.
As it turns out, the lawsuits have already begun. http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/04/29/arizona.immigration.lawsuit/index.html?hpt=T2 What I love is this is a cop that is suing over the law. I realize its a minority of cops that are bad, but its really nice to hear the good ones in the news for once.
