Ah-HA! So I am not the only weirdo that gets freaked out from having time off! I do the same thing. My boss thinks it's goofy because I get so apologetic when I need to ask for time off or take a sick day. My colleagues used to ask why I fret about it, now they just roll their eyes. I hadn't thought about why I do that before, but may it's from too many years at hourly wage jobs... My boss and colleagues have always just been engineers.
Also, totally understand about the ferris wheel. I went on one for the first time with Scott about three years ago. Ours was a bench instead of a gondola, and it rocked. Scott thought it was fun to swing his legs and make it rock more - until I plastered myself against him and squealed. Then he stopped rocking it, and started mocking me. "Who gets scared on a FERRIS WHEEL?" I do. 'Nuff said.
