WTF

I hate the weather, I cannot even voice how much I hate it. Why the hell is it 15-20 degrees warmer in Washington then what is predicted for Dallas Texas.

Yesterday after work, as it reached 101 degrees the wife and I laid there sweating. I am going to have to figure out if there is anywhere we can go to avoid the heat.

Yes, this post is purely me whining about the weather, and to think, I was complaining about 84 degrees.

We swapped weather:

Today will have a high of 82 with scattered showers and storms.

Not a chance.

We're under water, fool :p

No seriously - 3 inches in one hour for a few hours this morning.

I'd recommend a window AC unit. It's made a difference in our room where the Central AC won't reach. However I've no idea what kind of layout you have in the apt.

wow 3 inches, I would be down with that, missing the rain already.

We are discussing a window AC unit, problem is we both realize the second we spend that money it will drop to normal temps. Although we both agree by the end of the season we will buy an AC (when the prices drop), this is the last summer I want to deal with this.

Having once lived in a house with no central air, we've found that putting the AC unit in the bedroom allows for sleeping a LOT better. The 2nd AC unit goes in the living room, so you can get out of the bedroom once in a while.

Put the AC in the bedroom, close the door.

Remember to close all your windows and drapes after ~9am.

Make sure you have fans going, and if possible, have them blow across a pan of water, or ice packs.

If they get a slightly larger one, say 8000 or 9000 BTUs, it can keep the entire living space pretty comfortable. I've got an 8000 and it keeps my house around 70-72 and free of humidity (which is what bothers me more, actually).

It wouldn't hurt to have it spare

I know you guys like to travel light, but it wouldn't be a bad bet to consider that when you don't need it - your folks might.
$100 at Walmart, I hear they can be found cheaper elsewhere.

We're not as hot but we're every bit as humid. Five minutes outside makes the flip flops get soggy. I do not like soggy flip flops.

Any way to score an air conditioner at the local home store?

I don't want to hear the whining. Your working inside, in the AC, at least I suspect there's AC. There's no AC outside.

89 degrees in my office on Tuesday when I left! Right now it's only a balmy 80, and I'm wearing jeans.

At least my hands aren't cold?

[identity profile] bakersgames.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The PUD office I am working at is about 90, what kills me is no breeze in the office.

I hate the heat too.

Hot weather makes me feel ill. I wilt if the weather is less than 60 or greater than 80. Needless to say, I am wilting a lot two seasons out of the year... :)

As such, just a little thing that I have found works wonders: a cold-water soaked wash cloth on a bare neck or chest - especially if you have a fan blowing.

Also, I get my hair wet. But I have a lot more hair than you, so it's probably more effective. :\

hehehe.... you said wet :)

Although I tried that about 10 minutes ago, it does help.

Y'see, this is why we've suggested you visit in the springtime here - your first trip Down Under should not be in the height of summer. :)

[identity profile] bakersgames.livejournal.com 2009-07-30 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I would cry in your summer. Then again I could visit in your winter and still feel like its summer.
